Model TM66 Coast Manufacturing's president, Al Scarpello, has developed an all-aluminum drain cleaning machine that will handle just about 90% of all drain calls. Weighing in at an incredible 66 pounds, less cable, the Torquemaster 66 can accept three different reel sizes, and a broad range of cable diameters and lengths. Power comes from a gear reduction motor that develops 100 pounds of torque, enough to clear 6" mains up to 200' in length. Cable diameter for mainline stoppages would be either 5/8" or 11/16" in lengths ranging from 100' to 150' in the 5/8" diameter, and 75' to 120' in the 11/16" diameter cable. A special 9/16" x 100' cable can be used for clearing mainlines from a roof vent. A 22" reel of 9/16" x 100' cable weighs in at 60 pounds, still light enough for the ladder. Small drains are easily cleared by the use of a 3/8" x 90' cable in a 15" reel, or 1/2" x 80' cable in a 17" reel. Reel covers are available in all sizes for inside use.
The Torquemaster 66 quickly breaks down, leaving the base machine at 54 pounds and is easily carried up a ladder in one hand. A sliding bushing on the guide arm, makes changing reels a matter of about 30 seconds. The Torquemaster 66 is not only super light, but it boasts some impressive space saving measurements as well. The length is 34", height without reel is 14", and the width is 22". Height with a 22" reel is 23". This compact size allows for more storage space in the service vehicle.
After two months of field use by SOS Rooter in San Diego, California, owner Ron LaScala says "The Torquemaster 66 has performed beautifully."
